Flowers

Time flies so fast and we are drawing near our wedding date. I didn't even notice that i haven't had an entry here for sometime now. I'm quite busy with the preparations. My main concern as of the moment is the flowers for the entourage and the reception. As much as possible i don't want to splurge much on the flowers as this will be only temporary. I'm looking for direct suppliers of flowers. I have one contact at tupi, south cotabato, for the roses and mums... My florist also needs liliums and gerbera to complete his masterpiece. If you happen to know some suppliers... Pls buzz in...

My Lips are Sealed... : ]

Yes, you read it right.... my lips are literally sealed. Days ago i had this annoying sore throat and just last wednesday my voice started to change until it became husky. Yesterday, it worsened and now nothing's coming out from my mouth!!!! Ronald advised me to refrain from talking and to give my vocal cords time to heal. I thought this is going to be easy... hahaha!!! Who am i kidding? Me? not talking?.... Honestly, I'm having a hard time communicating especially to my patients. Grrrr.... I really don't know how to go about this, not communicating to my patients is a mortal sin in nursing!...Hoping this hoarseness will subside. I can't stand another day without my voice!

What is Ventricular Septal Defect?

Yesterday, two kids was operated for vsd patch closure. Last night, i was assigned to one of them. What do we really mean by ventricular septal defect? According to healthsquare.com, theres a hole in the wall that divides the left and right ventricles of the heart. This defect is quite common in the US. The holes can be small or large causing the heart to work harder to pump more blood. Children with small holes needs no surgical intervention as this would close eventually but for those with large holes, a surgery is badly needed.
Children with VSD often presents growth delay, poor weight gain, have little energy, frequent colds and breathing problems. These are among other symptoms presented in my patient. I pitied them so much. It hurts me to my him in pain due to the major operation he's been through. What moved me more is that i never heard my patient complain. He asked but never complained. I just pray that God will bless these kids with so much love and protection.... coz for me, these children are Angels.

Yummy California Maki

Japanese foods are one of my weaknesses. I binged on California Maki and Tempura everytime we go to japanese buffets. Here in Davao, japanese resto are quite expensive. What i do is that I save for it. I just love the complexities of the ingredients the japanese cuisine use.... and they are healthy too. I you have recipes that u want to share, i would gladly appreciate it.

Mindanao Heart Center

Many did not know that Mindanao Heart Center exists here in Davao. Little publicity was given when the institution started last February 2007. Now, I would like to pay tribute to my second home. Mindanao Heart Center was inaugurated last February 14, 2007. MHC, although a part of the Davao Medical Center, has a separate building. MHC started with quite a few number staff and only the special units functioning, namely the Coronary Care Unit, the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, the Cardiovascular Operating room and Cardiovascular Recovery Room. After sometime, with the growing number of patients, the East Wing ward was opened to accomodate all the cardiac patients.
The Mindanao Heart Center provides services such 2 Dimensional Echocardiography, Coronary Angiogram, Angioplasty, Pacemaker Insertion and Cardiac Surgeries such as PDA Ligation/Transection, Heart Valve replacements, Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), SEptal defects Repair, Aneurysm repair, Excision of Myxomas, etc.
At present, MHC is fully functional with the staffs and medical doctors are at your service 24 hours, 7 days a week.

The Assumption Parish Pop Choir @ The ABS-CBN TV Mass

Last October 11, 2008, The Assumption Parish Pop Choir was invited to sing for the ABS-CBN Davao Sunday TV Mass. The group was already at the said tv station an hour prior to the taping. Of course everbody was excited as they will be appearing on tv for the first time. Since we arrived early, we got to see how the studio transformed from a tv newsroom to an altar for the mass. We were amazed how the set looks big on tv well infact the studio is just a n average room size. The studio was extremely cold to the point that we asked if they could possibly increase the temperature. They said ok. Minutes past, the studio was still freezingly cold and there's no way to talk to the personnel since the mass is about to start. To cut the story short, the mass went on smoothly with our flesh and bones shivering.

Dismayed

In early June we, a group of nurses was invited to dance for the Department of Health Convention which was supposedly to take place last July. When the date drew nearer, the DOH announced that the convention be move to September. When September came, they again announced that the convention be move to October. This time we thought this was for real. We already bought tights and leotard plus furs for our costumes as we are going to do an excerpt from the catz musical. We also had series of practices already.Little did we know, our travel order was not approved by the heads. I just got a text from my co-nurses that only 5 are allowed to join the convention and they have already decided who will go. This news gave me a big slap on the face!!! We are not going! after all the practices and expenses! we are not going! I mean many things have been sacrificed. Me and my friend were supposed to go to malaysia but we prioritized the dance. Grrrr... I pitied my co-nurses who will be going to manila for the first time. I think we ought to know the reason why is this so... We need explanation... some valid explanation.

Chocolates

What a sweet tooth i have!!!I'm craving for chocolates! It's been what???... 2 days since i had my last bite of this sweet temptation. I'm kinda controlling myself not to eat chocolates for a while..take note, "for a while" only... I need to loose some weight for an upcoming event. Honestly, it is killing me! hahaha... But you know what, it's kinda fulfilling that i was able to say no to it!.. I'm hoping to carry on with this plan even after the event so as to do away with the possibility of diabetes. This will definitely be hard but i'm hoping to surpass this addiction!

Mission Complete

This morning i went out to meet up with our wedding's caterer. We had a nice arrangement in terms of the services they will be offering and of course we discuss about the food we are going to serve. Fortunately, the caterer belongs to our parish that it was not awkward to ask for discounts and freebies. We went over with the menu and decided to have a cocktail before the reception, a buffet with 4 viands, fresh fruits and desserts. Our caterer is also kind enough to arrange for us the rentals for the tables and chairs and the sound system that we will be using.
God is so good! He made all of these things fall into their right places. My next stop will be our invitation and our hair and make up stylists. Wish me luck!

Truth about Life.

Just got a bad news. The pt. we've been caring for just passed away. The news came to me as an eye opener. Indeed you'll never know when our time here on earth will end. Last night, our patient was just as hyper as a well person except that she has breathing tube to assist her breathing since she has got out of the operating room. When we left the unit this morning, she was kinda restless but still with good sensorium. This afternoon, when I was about to leave for my duty, my collegue texted to inform that the patient arrested and they are still reviving her. I could not believe what i had read. Few minutes later, another text came in... Our patient died. I was shocked. Could not believe. In denial. Realization sets in... If it's our time to go, no amount of medical interventions can stop it. The best we can do is to spread love and live as if there is no tomorrow. Time flies so fast, lest's live life to the fullest.

Sleep Deprived! ZZZzzzzzz...

I feel so exhausted after having a toxic night duty. Because of this, i was curious to look into some articles over the net about the effects of sleep deprivation. According to the source, one who lacks sleep and has been deprived of sleep can have serious effects of ones health. It most of the time impairs the ability to think and handle stress!.... Hmmm... maybe that explains why i get so cranky all the time. In addition, it was written there that without adequate rest,our brain's activity to function quickly deteriorates!!!!. OH NO!!!! This may impair my memory and ability to concentrate. Worst of all, sleep deprivation may lead to some other effects like hypertension, heart disease, depression and slow reaction times... What would i do then? Can't sleep on duty all the time? I guess as nurses, sleep deprivation is one risk we all have to take.
